Our big one is getting closer and closer, and preparations are in full swing! From entrepreneurial travel, minimizing and saving to big financial decisions – it’s a challenging, but incredibly fun process. In this blog, I share how I keep my business running, what choices we make and how we are smart with our budget.

Running my business during our trip

Many entrepreneurs ask themselves, “How can I keep earning while traveling around the world?” I had an inspiring conversation about this with my business coach from Unizo, and I now have a clear strategy for making my business location-independent.

1. Engage freelance photographers

Because I cannot and do not want to shut down my photography business just like that, I will be working with freelance photographers in Belgium. I will continue to do client contacts and possibly post-processing, while they do the photo shoots.

๐Ÿ’ก I’ve thrown job openings out the door and already received many responses! In the coming week I am going to make a selection and invite candidates for an interview. Super exciting to put this team together!

2. Helping other photographers with automation & marketing

Many photographers struggle with their website, automation and social media marketing. Starting with you, I’m going to help them through an online course, coaching & done-for-you packages to work more efficiently as a photographer and reach more clients.

๐Ÿ’ก I have developed packages and landing pages and will soon go live with my offerings! I am currently working out courses teaching photographers how to build their own websites, use their Instagram smartly and automate their workflow. This is going to be so much fun to share! ๐ŸŽ‰ And I already have a first client to work out her website effectively. With that, I will be working effectively this week as well!

3. Creating content for travel companies & brands

How cool would it be to get paid for taking photos and videos while traveling? This is another next idea, I will approach travel agencies and tourism brands to provide content for their marketing. Digital nomad and photographer in one! ๐Ÿ“ธ I am very curious how the response to this will be!

Staying enrolled as a secondary professional

One of the biggest financial questions was: What do I do with my corporate status while traveling around the world? After consulting with my accountant, I decided to remain registered as a secondary occupation, even though I do not have a main occupation.

๐Ÿ‘‰ The only downside? No pension accrual. But honestly? I believe in financial freedom more than a traditional pension. ๐Ÿ˜†

Smart savings for our trip

In addition to taking care of my business, we are also in the midst of saving and cleaning up.

โœ”๏ธ Minimizing & tidying – In each room I have already taken hold of everything we have, and in Marie Kondo fashion decided whether or not we need the item. As a result, many items have already been taken away to the dumpster park.
โœ”๏ธ Selling items through Vinted There also already numerous moving boxes filled with items that we will sell on Vinted or take to the thrift store. Thanks to Vinted, we also made a nice penny on the side anyway!
โœ”๏ธ Furniture returned to Ikea – In exchange for vouchers (we resell those vouchers, if they don’t need it ourselves. That way we have an extra travel budget! ๐Ÿ’ฐ).
โœ”๏ธ Fixing everything in the house – We are completing minor repairs in our house. Because our goal is to rent out our house smoothly. The nicer it looks, the better of course.

Big expenses: Investing in our home

Unfortunately, not everything is about saving money… Last week our flat roof was completely renewed and insulated. A big investment, but essential to the value of our home. My motto? Money comes and goes – and investing in quality always pays off.

Inspiration boost: Podcasts for entrepreneurs ๐ŸŽง

During car rides, I like to listen to inspirational podcasts. My favorite of this week? The Free Maid Podcast! A must-listen for anyone who wants to be entrepreneurial & work location independent. It brings me so much inspiration & fuels me with possibilities. The sky is the limit! And maybe this is another idea for ourselves? Create a podcast in preparation for our trip & of course during the trip … Are you excited? Let me know in the comments!

Future plans: stay tuned!

Are you a photographer looking to automate your workflow, improve your website or attract more clients? I’m developing something really cool, so stay tuned! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿ’ฌ Are you also into world travel or location-independent entrepreneurship? Let me know in the comments! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Much Love,

Joke, Bram & Noah
